The Future of Romance
A friend and I were discussing at lunch the seeming death of romance among young people in their 20’s. I hadn’t really given it much thought until she posed the question: “When is the last time a guy put in the effort to plan an evening of surprises, or cooked a dinner, or found a fun event for you two to do together?” Or for that matter, when did I? I don’t expect those sorts of things and I do not believe that dates of this kind are totally neccessary, especially in the beginning of a relationship. But, upon further reflection, I used to think they were. I used to anticipate what “he” would come up with next and loved thinking of creative ways to show I cared, and was interested in caring more. So I wonder, what changed? When did putting in a little extra effort fall by the wayside? Maybe if we all attempted to be a bit more obvious, we wouldn’t so often misinterpret intentions.
So that being said, my friend has decided to romance her man of the minute. No doubt about it, she’s pulling out the big guns and I’ll be damned if he doesn’t respond how we want him to.
